Little me

A Little About Me…

Yes, that’s me rocking the saddle shoes with the baseball glove on the wrong hand, circa 1965.
Born in Niles, Michigan.

A few stats:

  • I have visited 42 of the 50 United States
  • I have visited eight other countries, circumnavigating the globe on one two week trip
  • I have lived in five states
  • Over the years, I’ve taken over 200,000 photos
  • I was a wilderness Search and Rescue volunteer and instructor
  • I coached youth soccer and refereed (up to college level) for nearly a decade.

Why I Write

I am not a theologian or biblical scholar, nor do I claim to possess the full truth. What I offer here comes from reading Scripture and the writings of Christians across the centuries, listening for the Spirit’s guidance, and trusting that true understanding flows not from human wisdom but from God alone.

I reflect on my own journey toward Christian maturity and share my thoughts with the hope that they may stir in others a desire to seek the truth revealed by God’s Spirit. Sometimes I get it wrong—but being right isn’t my aim. My aim is to live under the unfiltered truth of God’s Word, allowing His Spirit to renew my mind and correct my heart.

Sincere questions and gentle corrections are always welcome. I invite discussion not to persuade one another toward a particular view, but to seek—together with the Holy Spirit—the truth in love and humility.

(2 Corinthians 10:5 • 1 Corinthians 2:12-15 • John 16:13 • Proverbs 3:5-6 • 2 Timothy 2:24-25 • Ephesians 4:15)

How I Write

I write what I know and what I’ve considered. I typically start with a concept research using books I own and AI. After generating a rough draft, I share my draft with AI tools (typically ChatGPT and/or Claude). I typically add a few final changes to the suggested edit and post to my page. Earlier posts (pre-July 2025) did not go through this process and were written as I was still “finding my voice” as was not yet using AI.

About the Images I Use

In my earlier posts, I used images downloaded from online stock sites. To save money—since I don’t run ads on my sites—I’ve since switched to creating images with ChatGPT or using photos I’ve taken myself, such as the ruby-throated hummingbird resting in a gentle rain shown to the right.

The photo from the blog homepage was taken on Christmas Day, 2016. I was taking a break on top of, as I recall, Tennet Mountain on the Art Loeb trail. Located in the Shining Rock Wilderness area, part of Pisgha National Forest, I set out to see how people get lost. And I was successful. Resulted in much ridicule from fellow Search and Rescue team members.
I’m sorry, did I say lost? Search and Rescue personnel are NEVER lost. We just end up somewhere other than where we planned.
